Concrete slabs can develop voids from a variety of reasons, ranging from sliding soil beneath the slab displaced because of a lack of proper compression, to water erosion slowly washing away the soil over time. Voids can lead to a weakness in the slab, causing dips in the surface, tilting or cracks and breaks.

Using GPR is an effective way to detect voids under concrete foundations. On one particular concrete slab, they found a surprising result. During the data collection, they noticed some This is one example of how looks can be deceiving - there was no physical evidence of any problems

To detect voids under concrete, mudjacking contractors use a high-frequency, ground penetrating radar system. The GPR equipment sends a radio pulse down into the ground. When the transmission reaches an anomaly in the soil, a reflected signal is sent to the receiver.

Filling voids under concrete slabs is a sound repair solution for homes with noticeable concrete damage or sinking. Rainwater runoff and animals can create voids under concrete structures. The longer the void exists the more likely it is to cause failure in the concrete.

This paper proposes a method for detecting void that occurred under concrete pavement slab on the basis of pavement's response gained from Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). FWD tests were carried out on airport and port concrete pavements that have voids under their concrete slabs.

Accurate mapping of the voids under concrete slabs provides critical information for roadway designers to derive optimum rehabilitation and maintenance strategies. However, the literature on applying FWD to detect voids under concrete slabs is quite…

Under existing concrete highway pavements there are voids that develop because of the pumping action of the slabs. The presence of free The intent of this section was to detect a fairly large void within the concrete slab. Section 4 had a 3-inch-thick coarse aggregate base under the concrete slab.
